Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Current treatments do not always remove all cancer cells or may not be able to reach hard-to-reach cancer cells in the body. This leads to dangerous metastases that reduce the chance of recovery. Yana is therefore looking for a new, more effective method of treating breast cancer and she's putting her hope on camels...

Yana Dekempeneer is a researcher in biomedical sciences, affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and SCK-CEN, the research centre for peaceful applications of radioactivity in Mol. She started her doctoral research with a scholarship from Kom Op Tegen Kanker.
