Dealing with clothing more intelligently

About the research

We are producing more clothing than ever, but wearing it less and less... How can we give clothing a second, third, or fourth life? And how can fashion companies respond to this in a sustainable and profitable way?

Fien Demarest (Thomas More University of Applied Sciences) is working with Flemish fashion companies to investigate how circular business models—such as resale, rental, and repair—really work in practice. In this three-minute video, discover how brands such as Xandres and Dressr are experimenting with circularity and what they are learning from it.

With a keen eye for user needs and a strong interest in sustainability, Fien Demarest looks for ways to support the shift to circular practices. As a junior researcher at the Centre of Expertise for Sustainable Business and Digital Innovation at Thomas More, she contributes to projects within the research department Circular Entrepreneurship, focusing on circular business models for the retail sector. With a background in service design, Fien uses qualitative methods to dive deep into consumer behavior. Her research spans a wide range of topics—from circular fashion and reusable take-away packaging to sustainable furniture. Through projects like INFINITEX, she helps shape practical solutions.
