About the research
In more than 1 in 10 colon cancer patients, metastases emerge to a barely known body part: the peritoneum. Such peritoneal metastases are extremely deadly and difficult to treat. In his PhD, cancer researcher Jesse Demuytere (Ghent University) reveals how the peritoneum is not only a victim, but possibly also a henchman of the cancer cells. He examined peritoneal metastases of patients, cell by cell, and described their properties.
The result? A solid inventory that helps to better understand how cancer spreads to the peritoneum and provides a springboard for further research. Watch the video.
