Paulien Leemans (VUB - UAntwerpen) explains how glowing skin doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense. By reprogramming bacteria, she turns waste like used cooking oil into sustainable skincare ingredients.

Paulien Leemans graduated as a bioengineer (Ghent University) in 2021 and has been working as a mandate assistant at the University of Antwerp since 2021. She teaches microbiology, industrial biochemistry and beer brewing, and researches how bacteria convert waste into valuable molecules, thereby replacing fossil raw materials.
