An unstoppable curiosity and urge to (re)build things, in combination with a passion for nature & natural sciences, stimulated Broes to become an environmental and biomedical engineer. In order to inspire the next generation of researchers, Broes afterwards started teaching in high school. Enchanted by the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision (CV) to solve real-world problems, Broes’ current PhD research focusses on AI and CV based technologies for ornamental vertical farming at ILVO and UGent.
