Smart drones: your plants’ doctors

About the research

Did you give your mum a lovely bouquet on Mother’s Day? Behind those beautiful flowers lies a great deal of work on the part of the grower. And what is the grower's greatest fear? That a fungus or disease will spread rapidly and destroy the entire crop. Arno Kasprzak (ILVO) wants to do something about this. Using drones and AI, he helps growers detect diseased plants so that they can take swift and targeted action.

Driven by a strong interest in environmental processes, climate, and spatial data, Arno Kasprzak chose to study Geography. During his studies, he developed a deep passion for remote sensing, spatial analysis, and artificial intelligence, and became increasingly interested in how earth observation can be used to better understand and map our surroundings. In his current role as a Junior Scientist at ILVO, Arno works primarily with drone imagery to study and monitor agricultural systems. His aim is to turn complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that help farmers make more efficient, data-driven, and sustainable decisions.
