About the research

Almost 1 in 3 teenagers still struggle with urinary complaints, but they carry on without seeking medical help, often out of shame. Urologist Mauro Van den Ende (UGent) wants to break this taboo.

In this video, he explains what goes wrong, why it is important to seek help and how his research can help teenagers without shame.

Mauro Van den Ende is a physician-specialist in training in urology at the University Hospital of Ghent. He combines his clinical work with doctoral research within the 'NOPIA Research Group' at UGent, where he researches 'Lifelong lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)' or 'Lifelong urinary complaints'. Research on transitional phases such as puberty and its influence on urinary complaints fascinates him immensely. With his PhD, he hopes, on the one hand, to break the taboo surrounding urinary complaints and, on the other hand, to provide teenagers with urinary complaints a helping hand.
