Would you add worms to your skincare routine?

About the research

Isabelle Noyens tries out a new skincare product and is an instant fan. One small detail: the oil comes from… mealworms. These are packed with healthy fatty acids that moisturise and nourish your skin, and offer a local and sustainable alternative to the petroleum-based mineral oils found in many creams.

The best bit? Isabelle fed the mealworms potato scraps from the chip-frying industry, and they thrived on them. In this way, she and her colleagues at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences are turning food waste into a raw material for your daily skincare routine. Find out how it works in this video.
