Teacher Tapp: talking about, but above all with, education

About the research

We talk a lot about education. But do we listen enough to the people who stand in front of the class every day? 👩‍🏫📱

Researcher Stéphanie Vanderheeren (Artevelde University of Applied Sciences) and her colleagues launched Teacher Tapp in Flanders for this purpose. In this free app, more than 1,000 people from the education sector – from teachers to principals – answer three short questions every day about classroom practice or current affairs. They also receive inspiring tips and can raise educational issues themselves.

The app thus provides a unique insight into what is going on in education and stimulates discussion, from the staff room to parliament.

A broad interest in everything related to education led Stéphanie to pursue various courses of study: she trained as a primary school teacher and social worker, and subsequently obtained a master's degree in Educational Studies from KU Leuven. Today, she works as a lecturer-researcher in primary school teacher training at Artevelde University College.

She approaches the many issues in education with a curious attitude and an analytical eye. Her investigative involvement is reflected in her role as project leader of Teacher Tapp Flanders: an accessible and long-term research project that keeps its finger on the pulse of education. Together with a warm team, she works every day to gain a better understanding of what is going on in the classroom.
